ITM- Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman was a artist who was best known for blurry black and white photographs of herself and female models; which are because of long exposure times and movement means that they blur and become apart of the background almost invisible or their faces are obscured stripping them of their identity.

Woodman became depressed in 1980 due to her work lacking in gaining attention and a broken relationship; in 1981 she committed suicide by jumping from a loft building window.

Due to the obscurity of her work I find myself drawn to her work since I was introduced to it in college as it encapsulates what it can be like to have depression, where you feel invisible and empty, often like you're a puff of smoke with no real substance to you.

I looked at her work again as I started to think about Long Exposures with my project to also get this ghost like figure doing activities and illustrating the feelings of Mental Health.
