Project Title:  Sports Center for the Disabled

Everybody has the right to exercise. But there are lack of proper sports facilities for the disabled. I designed this Universal Sports Centre that caters for specific needs of different users. The mixture of various sports fields can promote interactions between all types of people who love doing sports.

The architecture is designed to provide user-friendly and relaxing spaces. The building envelope is covered by timber strips to express a feeling of nature. The interior spaces are dominated by contrasting colours that helps the visually impaired users to read the space with ease. This strong contrast creates an unexpected nature, stimulating people to explore around the site.
On the ground floor, there are two basketball courts, two sitting volleyball courts, administration office and medical rooms. One more basketball court and a gym room are located on second floor. On the third floor, there is a sky garden, indoor shooting range, table tennis and bowling area.
There are 8 nos. of lift and 2 nos. of stair connecting all floors. Changing rooms, shower rooms and toilets are placed at the same location on each floor.
Pink and blue are used for the basketball and volleyball courts which can be used by anyone. A yellow / purple colour combination is used for the sitting volleyball court and boccia court which are popular games for the disabled.
Common area is located at the first floor that can hold exhibitions for visitors to stay and relax.
On the third floor, there are archery, table tennis courts, bowling and common areas in various colour combinations. Public can use this multi-function area to hold other activities such as yoga glass.
Sufficient disabled toilets are provided in the washroom areas across the sports centre. Finally, there is a roof garden with vertical greening on one side to create comfortable open space for public to enjoy.
