Throughout the story Sherlock and Watson travel to a haunted moor where there were sightings of a spectral dog. The forest is shaped like a hound to represent that the mysterious hound can be everywhere within the moor. The man walking throughout the forest symbolizes isolation and anxiety. A deep blue was chosen for the cover to represent the coldness of the forest
