Hot Wheels: Extreme Racing - Rebranding Matte Painting

EXTREME RACING 

A visual reimagining of the Playstation One title ‘Extreme Racing’, the project was approached from a comprehensive branding perspective so I included an updated game cover, ‘hero’ marketing image and vector logo. In order to stay true to the original title, and create boundaries within the brief, the level design on display is largely realistic with interactive elements (such as loops, weapons & power ups) playing a relatively small role. The suggestion of imminent action and the aspect of speed permeates the visual campaign. 


MARKETING IMAGE

The marketing image needed to showcase an environment that was both realistic and instantly recognisable as Hot Wheels. 
The image takes full advantage of the width showcasing not only an attractive arena, but vehicles, weapons and gameplay.


GAME COVER IMAGE

The cover focuses on the drama of ‘extreme racing’, it needed to be exhilarating whilst echoing the visual style and palette of the marketing image.

VECTOR LOGO

The logo was intended both as visual identifier for the game and to provide at-a-glance information about the intensity of the gameplay. Speed and action are its core themes. Speed is illustrated by the horizontal trail lines along with text perspective and reinforced by the speedometer, action is implied by the bright slits that cut through each word.
