Sisterhood Solidarity
Gender Equality Now
The idea behind my poster formed during research about the feminist movements. The term sisterhood came about during the second feminist movement in the 1960's and refers to the shared oppression of women. Many feminists have criticized the use of this term because it was formed on the experiences of white women feminists who at the time, believed in the segregation of white and black Americans. The concept of sisterhood could not be fully recognized as women discriminated against other women and whilst race issues have since been addressed, the discrimination of women by women still remains today. Judgmental and belittling attitudes are strengthening the division of women.

When women are valued less by other women, it resonates throughout culture including men and prolongs the development of gender equality. Based on the interpretation of feigning ignorance from the the three wise monkeys, this poster aims to challenge that concept emphasizing the message to no longer accept ignorance and reform sisterhood for gender equality.
