Architecture - Returns and Transformations

About the project
Daniel Marek - Returns and transformations

Daniel Marek is a young artist whose personality is emotionally impressive, full of ideas and discoveries. He calls them "returns and transformations." I admire his systematic and at the same time creative interest in the history and present of an individual’s life. Nowadays, we are amazed by the authors employing targeted creativity in their programs, striving to express their perception of the world through each work of art, while being able to engage the viewer. Daniel is one of them.
His current presentation of original tapestries develops the author’s manuscript in painting and graphics technologically. However, it receives its authenticity through woolen material, the fabric which is connected with a man so closely in the various stages of existence. The realism derived from his restoration studies blends with a sensitive approach to abstract cutouts in his painting and graphics. These elements also penetrate into a tapestry, however, an abstract expression dominates them. They are like a strong wave that is part of the world while simultaneously transforming it. Daniel’s work is further characterized by sensitive colors, shape dynamics and cultivated interweaving of expressive elements.
With this exhibition, Daniel proves that he belongs among the ambitious artists who want to create artistic values. And these are powerful words for the present. I know he will succeed. His splendid artwork merits recognition.

Daniel Marek – Nirvana
The work called Nirvana expresses my efforts to return to the roots and origins of form. Wool is a material that has been known since the early ages, used to weave clothing. In the past however, this material was not intended to express feelings, artistic experiences and moods.
Two years ago, I came across a non-woven technique called Arttex. My work Nirvana is part of a cycle and a symbol of the transformation of the personal and at the same time natural, state of mind. During the process of creating this work, I realized how important nature and life on planet Earth are to us.
Arttex is a non-woven technique which has its origins in Slovakia. The used material is sheep webbing, which is essentially an environmentally friendly prefabricated waste and recycled material.
Nevertheless, at the same time I return to the painting and I transform it into bonded tapestry through the medium of wool. I believe that paintings expressed in the form of woolen non-woven tapestry have their own special charm and poetry.
As a restorer of paintings, I work mainly with figural painting. I still paint figural paintings and portraits and recently I discovered the magic of abstract painting. I found out that I can further express myself in the form of a non-woven tapestry.
Declaration of personal feelings, moods and thoughts could be expressed by the abstraction persuasively, and material such as wool can inspire me endlessly. So I keep coming back to my original work of painting and drawing and transforming it into a new form – woolen tapestry – Arttex.
