The 'Skull Bride' series is my expression of what marriage means to a lot of women in my country, India, who do not have the agency to make decisions regarding this life landmark.

In the first piece, the bright red not only signifies the traditional 'sindoor', which is a major component of many wedding ceremonies but also the unpreparedness and alarm that a lot of these women are forced to face.
The piece consists of imagery borrowed heavily from the Bengali traditions of the country.
In the second piece, the prominent green is a reflection of the dominance of the colour in most Islamic traditions, including weddings.
The piece consists of imagery borrowed heavily from the Kashmiri traditions of the country.
The prominent blue of the third piece signifies the backwaters of Kerala, the southern state; while it also reflects its prominence amongst wedding colours.
The piece consists of imagery borrowed heavily from the Christian traditions of the state.
