Design Achievement
The newly designed ballpark in Wichita is envisioned as an entertainment destination catering to the local community. Drawing inspiration from the historical Delano District and the city's baseball heritage, DLR Group's design seamlessly integrates with the nearby Arkansas River and provides picturesque views of the Wichita skyline from within the stadium. A noteworthy addition to the ballpark is the new Wichita Baseball Hall of Fame, showcasing the city's proud baseball legacy. The design also prioritizes fan experience by offering diverse seating options, hospitality areas, and flexible spaces that can be utilized for a wide range of events throughout the year, including football, concerts, soccer, and winter sports. With multiple entry points and plaza areas adorned with public art, the ballpark boasts iconic features such as towers and canopies. Furthermore, it is part of a planned mixed-use development that will be connected to various restaurants and retail establishments.
Scope Summary
The completed project resulted in a new AAA ballpark boasting nearly 6,000 fixed seats. It offers a range of amenities, including twelve 12-person suites and 26 loge boxes. Additionally, there are party decks situated at both the suite level and on the roof of the team building, providing versatile spaces for use during games and throughout the year. Given the multitude of unique viewing areas and entertainment destinations within the stadium, the integration of effective wayfinding and signage became a crucial aspect of the design process. The signage design pays homage to the local aircraft industry by incorporating elements inspired by plane wings, seamlessly blended with industrial architectural features that complement the stadium's overall design. Notably, the signage package features impressive 12-foot-tall interior illuminated letters facing the interstate, prominently displaying the city's name. DLR Group played a key role in providing master planning, site planning, programming, experiential graphic design, and architectural design services for this project.
